Reading goals for 2019

Now I know this blog post is super late, but it took me a long time to analyze my reading and really think about how I want to improve my reading for 2019. Last year was a fantastic reading year, but I feel like I didn't read much of what I wanted to read or read literature and books that improve my life.  So that is something that is changing in 2019. I also wanted to slow down in reading and really enjoy what I am reading instead of just blazing through a book. I won't be participating in too many reading challenges or read along's this year due to studies this year. But I do have some goals that I think are somewhat interesting.

Goal # 1: Read more diversely

This is kind of my primary goal this year which is to read more diverse books. I am using the word diverse as a catch-all for either diverse characters, settings, and even countries I haven't read much from. I want to read a lot more own voices books. I would also like to read more biographies and autobiographies this year.  I will also try to be reading more translated works, and this year I have already read one translated work, so I feel like this will be an attainable goal.

Goal # 2: Read at least 30 books this year

This seems like a low goal for me because I usually read at least a hundred books, but with school this year I just don't think I will be able to read all that many for fun books. I am sure I will read at least 30 books though, and who knows I might be able to read a hundred or more but don't want to set myself up for failure. This is a goal I might re-evaluate as the year progresses.

Goal # 3: Read at least one classic a month

I am trying to work through more classic literature as I get older. I really want to read at least one classic a month, all though I hope to read two. I also want to read older classics and less modern ones. I think I would also like to explore other genres of classics, like philosophy and science fiction. I just want to get out of my comfort zone in reading and see what is out there.

Goal # 4: Listen to 10 audiobooks a month

Now I realize this goal is sort of controversial in the reading world. I just hope to listen to books more this year as I am doing boring things like cleaning or running errands. This will help me read more books and also make use of the short time I will have this year. I want to up my productivity, and I think audiobooks will help. I also want to use my Scribd membership more often as I am ashamed to say I haven't been using it, while still paying for it. So that is kind of a subgoal under this one.

Goal # 5: Work through the Gilmore Girls Reading list

This is an ongoing goal I have had for many years, and it isn't that I am going to finish the goal this year, but I just want to make progress on the list this year. I found the list here on BuzzFeed. I have a plan of reading some of the classics on this list and a few fun ones like Christine by Stephen King and Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen. This is like the closest thing to a reading challenge I plan on working on in 2019. This is the goal I am most excited about because I am currently working on re-watching all the Gilmore Girls episodes.
