                                                            Author Interview:

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I never did. I'm sure that sounds crazy, but I never had this moment of "I want to write." I had an idea for a story, and I wrote it, and then I thought, well, why don't I do something with it?

How long does it take you to write a book?

I have no idea. The Most Special Chosen has gone through three major iterations, and multiple lesser ones, over the course of about 10 years. I'm not positive how long it "actually" took me to write the book, or how long it takes me to write a book in general. I guess I'll be finding that out as I work on the rest of the series.

What inspired you to write romance, why does that genre matter to you?

It's where the story wanted to go. I didn't necessarily set out to write romance, I set out to write a vampire story, and it ended up with romance.

The genre is fun. You're often guaranteed a happy ending, and that's nice, because that doesn't always happen in real life. Reading is an escape, and what better way to escape than "happily ever after".

Where did The Most Special Chosen come from? What was the inspiration?

Someday I'll write a blog post (or three) on the full story of The Most Special Chosen. However, the current came into existence when I had a sudden blast of inspiration and wrote what is now Chapter 14. I can't say much about it without giving away spoilers, but that chapter completely changed the story I was writing. And I'm very happy it did.

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

I work full time. As much as I sometimes wish otherwise, that doesn't change for anything, even writing.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I'm not sure. Maybe not being able to write unless my "writing fairy" decides to visit. Sometimes, I just can't write. Other times, I feel super inspired and write several chapters in one go. I just wish my "writing fairy" would become a permanent visitor, or at least give me a hint of what makes her visit.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I read, a lot. I also play video games, cross stitch, knit, go to cons, eat (I'm a bit of a foodie), and, most importantly, spend time with my fiancé.

What do you think makes a good story?

I think that's different to everyone. To me, it's a story that keeps me interested and engaged. One that's polished, with minimal typos, grammatical errors, and continuity errors. It also helps if I can connect with the characters, but I've yet to figure out precisely what enables me to do that beyond a character in a situation I've been in in the past.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned by creating your books?

Social media is exhausting. Trying to build a following to market your books to is hard work, and the always-hungry social media content monster is incredibly demanding. It can be fun, too, but it's kind of like having a second job sometimes.

Rachel de la FuenteAbout the Author:
Rachel de la Fuente (meaning of the fountain) lives in Maryland with the love of her life and two furry children that meow. The Most Special Chosen is her first novel, but it's hardly her first story. She's been writing since elementary school, and telling stories since she could speak. She is an avid fountain pen enthusiast with a bit of an ink problem, and often writes book notes and sections of stories by hand.

Rachel was born and raised in southern California, but spent many summers with family in Mexico. Her parents loved traveling, so she also spent many vacations in various locations, soaking up foreign cultures and sights. She still loves to travel, and is committed to crossing all of the locations off her bucket list.

Rachel is a proud Slytherin, and when not writing, spends much of her free time reading, cross stitching, and watching documentaries.
